Ecuador is located on the north-western coast of South America. It’s bounded by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Ecuador has twenty-two provinces and three distinct regions. There are ten provinces spreading out from the Sierra Region which is in the central highlands. There are six in the Orient Region which is the flat to rolling eastern jungle. And there are five in the Costa Region. Ecuador has an area of 283,560 square kilometres which includes the Galapagos Islands.
This country is tropical along the coast and along the Amazonian jungle lowlands and its cooler in the inland at high elevations.
